Peter Bradley Adams Showcases New Songs in Rare Nashville Appearance

Fans of Peter Bradley Adams were treated to a 45 minute set of mostly new material Thursday night (April 10) at 12th & Porter. With his new record Leavetaking forthcoming, the new songs promise to be more of the same from Adams—organic, ambient, folk. Adams' music blends the later James Taylor with ambient production à la Daniel Lanois to create soothing, meditative, Sunday-morning music.

Thursday night's set featured Claire Small on backing vocals—another treat for many of us, as Small has recently relocated from Nashville to Texas. As is typical with Adams, the vibe was very meditative, and the 12th & Porter crowd was silenced by Adams' penetrating songs. Although based in Nashville, Adams does not perform much around town. But even with the paucity of live shows, Adams showed no signs of rust; there was, however, a brief set-list mixup that resulted in Adams upbraiding his guitarist—a rather unflattering public display of perfectionism that had me cringing. All great artists strive for perfection, but if Nashville has anything to teach musicians, it's to relax—have fun. Easier said than done.

Don't miss an opportunity to catch Peter Bradley Adams as he will likely support his forthcoming record with a tour. Fans of James Taylor, Daniel Lanois, Nick Drake, early Counting Crows and the like will certainly approve.
