The Lonely Hearts Perform Well-Crafted, Danceable, Pop-Rock
Last Friday night (August 8, 2008) Exit/In hosted a "Barack the Vote" function that included a strong lineup of Nashville bands. The clear standout, however, was The Lonely Hearts, a five-piece pop/rock outfit with hooky melodies, sibling harmonies, and a charming frontman who drives the girls crazy. Indeed, when all the girls ran to the front of the stage and displayed a frenzied appreciation for The Lonely Hearts, all the boys in the room stood back and wondered WTF.
The ensuing 40 minutes, however, proved that The Lonely Hearts are a solid live act with infectious melodies, tight harmonies, great stage-presence, and a very danceable sound that is early Beatles meets Tom Petty. The chicks dig these guys. To be sure, although local Warner Brothers artist Jeremy Lister headlined the show, the energy of the entire night was funneled into The Lonely Hearts' 40-minute set.
With the recent addition of one of Nashville's best tele chickin' pickers Dave Coleman (who is currently on tour with The Coal Men)) on lead guitar, and a new 5-song EP entitled Born in the Dark, The Lonely Hearts are beginning to capture a well-deserved and fast-growing fanbase.
