JUNE, 2007 IN REVIEW

Hello again Listen!Nashville readers. June was another fantastic month of music performances here in Music City from phenomenal Nashville-based artists. Here are some of the highlights.

Kyle Andrews got the month started by bringing his laptop down to The End for a night of techno-folk. Kyle's bass player wore the Frankenberry outfit which made the visuals interesting to say the least (read review). Brooke Waggoner opened up that show for Kyle, and Brooke will be performing on July 6th at 3rd & Lindsley for what promises to be a sold-out performance. Look for both Kyle Andrews and Brooke Waggoner to become household names in the very near future (read Listen!Nashville's article on Brooke).

Eric Normand has held a Wednesday evening residency at the 12 South Tap Room through June and his Larry Carlton inspired jazz trio will continue their run through mid-July. If you like good jazz guitar, do yourself a favor and go have a couple beers after work next Wednesday and watch this guy play, he's one of Nashville's best guitarists (read review). The Wrights delivered a jaw-dropping set over at the Station Inn in early June. Seriously, these guys are incredible roots/Americana singers and Adam Wright plays a Strat sweeter than anyone I've ever seen. Now's the time to see the Wrights, they're still playing small clubs but it won't be long before they're only doing the Ryman like that other couple in Nashville we like so much, Gillian and Dave (read review).

David Olney exorcised the Basement demons and set the place on fire during his CD release for One Tough Town. Olney is just so damn cool, and he sounds so damn good. When he's onstage the spirit starts a-movin' and you catch yourself lookin' for snakes to handle (read review). Tommy Womack opened the show for Olney, and Tommy was brilliant. The fella standing in front of me kept talking to his woman throughout the first couple of songs, but by the end of Womack's set, having closed with "Alpha Male," this guy was cheering Tommy on like he was at some kind of football game (see photo).

The month of June ended with two spectacular artists who are both more than emerging here in Nashville. First, Jeremy Lister put together a beautiful show at The Belcourt Theater that consisted of several indie artists and circus spectacles. Lister and his band closed the night with a full set of Lister's infectious soon-to-be hits that will all be included on his Warner Brothers debut (read review). Finally, former Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies frontman Mike Farris blew us away performing his new Columbia records release Salvation in Lights down at the Downtown Presbyterian Church. Expect Farris's new record to earn him a grammy nomination, and his live show is simply amazing. Farris's vocals are stronger than ever and the new sound blends Memphis soul, New Orleans style gospel, with a touch of 70's soul (read review). Don't miss Mike Farris live! See you all at the shows in July! Vincent Wynne, Editor
