MAY, 2007 IN REVIEW
Hello again Listen!Nashville readers. May was another fantastic month of music performances here in Music City from phenomenal Nashville-based indie artists. Here are some of the highlights.
Brandon Young kicked off the month at The Rutledge with a snapshot of songs that he is currently recording with producer Drew Ramsey. Young does not play often around town, so go and see him when the opportunity ariseshe has an androgenously feline way about him with a voice like Morrissey. Chris Scruggs brought his trio to the Basement where he delivered a tight set of vintage early rock 'n' roll with vocals very reminiscent of early John Lennon. Scruggs was also seen performing with Conor Lynch that same night, as well as near the end of May. Scruggs's pedal steel playing is impeccable.
Andrew Osenga brought his solo project to 3rd & Lindsley for a full band performance. Osenga is a guitarist who's playing style is clearly influenced by Mark Knopfler. His vocals are immediately palatable, reminiscent of Crowded House, but his guitar playing is the show-stopper. Andrew Osenga is also a heck of a producer who has been known to pack up recording gear on fly-dates and set it all back up backstage in order to finish vocal tracks. Osenga is currently working on another solo studio project as well the current guitar player for Caedmon's Call.
A Nashville-based artist that everyone should be watching closely is Brooke Waggoner. Waggoner has been playing Nashville for the past six months and is already drawing large audiences. Her newly recorded EP is set to be released on July 6th, and the myspace samples are truly amazing. Look for a Listen!Nashville interview with Waggoner to be posted around June 20th. Another group on the move here is Disappointed By Candy. Their recent 8 off 8th set proved that this duo's live show can replicate their Duran Duran-esque production wizardry (click here to see photos
