Mike Farris Wins Best New Emerging Artist, Rocks 3rd & Lindsley
One night after receiving the award for best New Emerging Artist of the Year at this year's Americana Music Association Conference, Mike Farris lit up 3rd & Lindsley with a blistering set of Stax Soul infused Gospel music. Already over one year old, Salvation in Lights continues to gain traction, as the awareness of this stellar record is growing through word of mouth.
The bandI didn't catch the names of all the band members, but I can tell you that Farris' new drummer is a funk master who's infusing a killer Fishbone backbeat while Mike and the McCrary sisters belt out a Stax soul vibe that's on par with Elvis himself. Throw in a French Quarter horn section and Joe McMahan on guitar and you've got yourself the kind of band that'll have people fallin' out all over the place. Okay, nobody got slain in the Spirit, but the packed house was on their feet having one heck of a good time.
If you were there, you know it was probably the best concert you've ever seen, and if you missed ityou missed the best show of 2008. Vincent Wynne
